Light Assembly & Sub Assembly

A 'Woven' textile is bound through the purposeful interlacing of fibres in a uniform (right angle) orientation opposed to a 'Nonwoven' textile which has a random fibre orientation and is bound through one of several different binding processes including 'Thermal Bonding'.

Carding

Although 'Thermal Bonds' are named by their binding process, the forming process is a critical step of Nonwoven production. The Thermal Bond Web forming process is considered a 'Carding Process'. The 'Carding Process' uses rotating cylinders whose outer perimeters are covered with fine metal teeth that comb the fibres into parallel arrays. The carding process distributes the fibres uniformly into a thin light weight structure referred to as a 'Web'.

Thermal Bonding Calenders

The thin carded Web then enters the Thermal Bonding process. In Thermal Bonding, high temperature pressure rolls thermally fuse the fiber surfaces together forming a bonded web. The thermal bonding of fibres densifies the carded web into a very thin non-woven textile named a 'Thermal Bonded Web'.

Our textile design engineers can meet with you early in your development phase to understand your product requirements. We will identify the correct fibre chemistries, fibre sizes, web construction, web density, and web thickness to meet all of your application's requirements at the lowest possible cost.

Fiber chemistries: Nomex ®, Polyester, Rayon, Imide, Polypropylene, and many more!
